Side Wall Use and Installation

It is competitively priced with other house wraps on the market and is installed exactly the same way. In addition to accomplishing the benefits of house wraps as an air & moisture barrier, our house wrap has the “Radiant Barrier” aspect. This is an additional benefit to you, our customer.

Also, you may be aware that if a home has radiant barrier installed, most HVAC application software has a Max Reflective Barrier factor that results in a 10% to 20% reduction in the tonnage air conditioning system requirement. This will save money on construction costs as well as reduce the utility bills for the end user.

This application utilizes the properties of both mass insulation and Max Reflect Barrier giving a superior system R-value of R-19.56. This application consists of Max Reflect Barrier Insulation, mass insulation and rigid board. This assembly was developed to meet building codes while keeping framing costs down.

R18.1 (3.19 RSI)
This application utilizes the properties of both mass insulation and Max Reflect Barrier giving a superior system R-value of R-18.1 (3.19 RSI). This assembly was initially developed for the Canadian market to meet their sidewall building codes while reaching framing costs. It met with great success!

Installation

1.    With a conventional 2" x 4" wall, use an R-12 (2.1 RSI) friction fit fiberglass batting and exterior 1/2" rigid board. Nail 1" x 2" furring strips across the studs every 16".

2.    Staple Max Reflect Barrier Insulation to the furring strips using 5/16" staples. Tape all seams using Foil Tape.

3.    Nail a second set of 1" x 2" furring strips directly over the first set of furring strips using three #10 wood screws.

4.    Apply sheet rock to the furring strips using sheet rock screws.

5.    In this application, Max Reflect Barrier becomes both the vapor retarder as well as an insulator.

6.    A helpful hint…Use shallow electric boxes and install them in the last set of furring strips, then the vapor retarder will remain intact.
